The last thing you need to understand, to get a clear picture about what paid traffic Affiliate Marketing is about, would be the Optimization Process. The process itself can be executed in many ways, every affiliate develops their own style at some point, but the core idea remains always the same – we optimize campaigns in order to increase the ROI (return on investment).
We are using the data from our tracker for this, that’s why it’s absolutely crucial to use one. First thing we need to do is to launch a campaign and let it run for a while … we are collecting the data now. Once we have enough clicks, we can start the optimization process. Keep in mind that we need to buy ENOUGH clicks, in order to reach statistical significance. You can’t base any decision on 10 clicks, right?
Now we look at the data and look for things that are either performing well or bad. Let’s say that we see certain banner is sending us a lot of traffic, but it’s not resulting into conversions … so we are wasting money here. We might see that out of 3 landing pages we are using, only 1 is converting … we are wasting money again.
On the other hand we can see that iPhone users are converting way better than those on iPads, so we want more iPhone users. We can also find out that out of 58 sites that we buy traffic from, only 5 are sending traffic that converts … we definitely want to focus on those 5 next.
What we do during the optimization process, is pausing “targets” that are losing money and focusing more on those that are profitable. The process itself is simple, but it can take significant amount of time an effort as we have to test a lot of banners, landing pages, traffic sources, offers and so on .
