0 I6 A1 l0 P# `+ t+ tGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said5 S5 J3 Q9 N* }& d* | i% @
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
5 O) d% _6 J; n7 [1 [3 L( v4 Jhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
# D! G; K7 Q# ^ c8 Lwhoever else is on the same server as you.* G+ C2 O, t" m; R: E2 Q8 ^
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast; W3 U/ ?1 o. X S/ M5 R
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
% K3 Q S, J. b4 q! J" m2 nseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
% j' b2 Q1 C# G% h: \To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a2 Y' p' m1 l$ L6 F5 x
house full of roommates (hosting customers)./ U# {0 v0 E! _3 a$ U
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside2 c! Z; {9 J: q y6 S
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will, Y, [3 R: {; f& L* x1 r
fit.
$ j4 `/ S/ s" ?4 ]; oSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than, u; e4 @ V) u" L4 m
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
/ a* i7 Z- O% s6 Z7 I$ atheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.) A+ @* F# R. x! @, E& Z
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For4 j0 L: M+ }7 |) |2 F
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
2 n# B5 p: s: I! iIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space; J; J# ^% g" s4 S7 B" o2 r
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is3 Q! Z2 m8 O( Q" j% C
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
( b6 l% @- ]( o U$ nA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources& b4 k3 ^. i5 r# D" j2 ^
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
& v# ~9 g+ V9 @traffic, faster.
: A8 a( _# Q) a" IAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
