Set Up Web Hosting; a/ E& Y8 }! K2 P' U7 N
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said' M% I& C2 a5 u3 n. A6 _
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
. B( T8 v4 i/ zhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
! h6 V/ t* \- j5 Y2 V- h! jwhoever else is on the same server as you.. `3 Q% q/ u- E4 |$ f! |1 l. d
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
: H, [6 R1 ?3 zenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3 Y: [3 l) ^" u
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.4 z; ~0 `, } p9 G( `
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a1 v0 x; I, k: ]2 p, y: `
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
# B# J7 i6 L# O' N6 v9 L* HIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside, a* G9 d$ g p! {; v2 Z# H: x
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
4 {5 S1 J" [0 c- Wfit.
0 z; R# O( @: Z0 b" y, O ySay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
5 T* a7 r% W6 F; sthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
4 u- J; y) d o; m2 R( } {) G. w R3 ctheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.8 x/ I! l/ n7 e
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For* c) n- v" O0 ~& r1 n/ o' X
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.6 f) A' ?" v! }
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
5 k5 T6 y- x% U! }inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is9 K' ]; y* u8 j9 b4 h u
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
5 |) t/ d! g! P$ p, gA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
+ c: `$ V; ~' [belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
Z8 T6 y- ^' ktraffic, faster.$ \7 M- v' t# ]
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.! M8 p+ u, h9 r1 L
