Set Up Web Hosting/ f- _* d- R6 p1 j W" F5 i3 P! c! b
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said" z# d$ L1 v( ?! w
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
6 \$ e$ i: V, ^; L. b. s5 f' f. lhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with1 a$ t2 H5 X3 _" l3 R% T
whoever else is on the same server as you.
Z5 ~6 Y: I: B& Q, L0 S% l4 zSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast. }, f5 ~6 r( ]. R6 ^" X% S- h
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3! F8 q2 ]: p/ r! o
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
, [$ m* t4 H2 R' nTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
/ P1 i( V7 \( Ghouse full of roommates (hosting customers).; z" V8 y9 u0 C
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside1 i( A6 h; h6 X" T% A! G! ^" C
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will, r' e( U6 x# N7 `, I3 O
fit.8 D8 G1 P1 s: H& M% o4 S" n/ d5 q
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
O! e2 w! t: N9 X- Hthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate$ o) n* o" ]( G
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.% ?: ~4 c& r0 X2 ^8 H c; J
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
9 _: I' P+ q. |7 Kany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
) D' Q! [3 h3 E: g2 j, hIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
3 ^" \* f$ Z, t5 F+ Q& Y, linside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is' Z) Z- G: E& s0 r! o0 X/ D J9 Q
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
6 w7 E& T0 a5 b/ }0 LA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
+ Y% S& f# i6 X; ebelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more& X8 Z6 T' U% M/ \- _
traffic, faster.
3 R$ O3 r2 i8 f3 v' P+ cAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
