3 }! X/ N8 I9 @# H% s2 kGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
- L# F* b% k- ~3 s4 y9 }" Uabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
! c# T7 l# r- _+ M0 chost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with7 G5 F7 w7 n0 [4 z
whoever else is on the same server as you.
S k# ^: b% G; [; hSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
6 S4 a( ^4 S' l$ h. m6 Aenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
$ B% W& D* K, K* Lseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
1 @8 f. P+ }6 R5 fTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a+ z5 O" z/ F( G* q
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
- {5 \6 I' ^/ D8 LIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
+ w7 m/ |! F1 R( g b$ hthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
3 T3 |+ s% a) tfit.
) y8 o N6 Z/ n% {. A% qSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than1 Y. ]& `, W' c4 `% n! R
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate6 Y' F0 i5 u9 ]6 E4 K: S" W/ k
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.. \% K0 H* d/ q9 w( u$ _8 S' i
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
5 i. j# P( _! O- Yany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.. {+ i, a5 B9 D' V; N. A
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
5 r* L/ y, V( W7 f9 Linside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
9 V) W; n+ X! m# ]2 Fpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
8 q7 }$ j k- Z# D8 n* D! ^. N$ KA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
; z/ ` i1 K; N9 C# w* Tbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more9 r* T# M! K7 T2 B. ?
traffic, faster.% Q0 P6 H* I8 @# T- V2 O' V
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
