Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
3 Y. _) K+ H! O B" Yabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared# W( u1 X1 Y' t3 C4 `' |
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
0 r$ f2 A9 X# V0 F" N% bwhoever else is on the same server as you.
9 C9 c& f. _( s: P- M) |Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast+ |+ P) l1 N" _. `0 `
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
/ b9 J, }. R' p3 M% x5 Jseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
$ y5 c2 W' ?5 [4 h m zTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a/ N2 _+ g' b0 g6 F! q7 F7 H) T
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
6 L0 x" d0 d& D- z4 ~% i% XIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside% _7 h2 l: H5 f4 X1 `# {
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will4 |& E! O9 |6 j8 x
fit.
% G7 C, R# m- O) wSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
+ A2 {: ? ~. E0 z" P3 i& u/ [9 _4 Lthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
( R- n$ v" ^/ Z0 ^" X: y2 etheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.4 A; e0 a5 ?3 M/ u8 D: I2 D
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For* q1 X5 U" p7 { G9 j
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
# Z/ r' I" c& o7 @, s7 uIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space! [! B8 R* L _ r: P$ z: U, t
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
- Y" {6 L& ?5 {0 ^$ T. N/ g2 f. t% upartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
/ H( l8 Y/ t: {6 L) C# n5 i7 d) xA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources n# E+ P7 m# j' W! b2 d
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
. j+ t/ H+ p: u2 g7 Z+ ^traffic, faster.5 F1 u) B2 y& n' G! _
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
