Set Up Web Hosting
2 n4 }8 |, P2 c' M GGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
" |% q- S f! l) C9 E. d7 ]' W/ Habout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
t/ Q! D$ S$ o5 k% L7 b5 Mhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with [: D% a; h, C9 J9 @/ b( a% R
whoever else is on the same server as you.& ]4 \5 f+ _$ M- n! ~
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
: W2 @; Y' O ~0 K) t6 Nenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 33 q6 E8 i! h0 o# y8 h( i9 Z- s
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
% ?1 D& @; d6 }/ m: j; F" T! OTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a9 E5 M3 B5 z* a$ l, E; v
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
& p9 h' v- t- FIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside1 @3 H! u3 e* Y; {) |1 P4 d
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will, g& c- }2 P$ l5 f
fit.
! P& x- S& N( t7 [, n8 b* ?Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
9 ]1 q& Y$ |9 f8 K% G1 Q+ \the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
% r) Y8 @8 b7 V* J9 }their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.* p9 n# H% u0 i6 |5 z. b J5 a$ B( [3 i
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
. D0 r! {4 K5 g5 D( z. _) a3 W8 }any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic./ L5 m- Q" q( @' v$ ?
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space' r- s) H I0 a( B, b
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is) x0 m( O3 |5 F% B* t' T
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time." H/ c* ?) h1 v
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources8 K, |/ t8 W7 m g: d# C
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
% a8 G9 D6 T9 `# \traffic, faster. T" o0 v* i* X0 d
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
