Set Up Web Hosting2 G/ y9 f: F- B4 m |
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
% T- |" w: |& U- B4 p9 i, pabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
/ z% w' c% q; yhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
1 U: v- d6 l) a, `% Wwhoever else is on the same server as you.
, T: }- ?4 t4 L. G) dSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast& L3 n6 |4 U+ Y+ `2 R+ ~
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
* k" G4 q- A" w1 L9 D" X' Iseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
3 I( u& w* ?- \) `% l0 T4 nTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a( D! K" a' L4 |4 ?1 i3 m$ C- o
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
% v9 L' G& i6 Z, n7 qIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside! ?+ v3 V; C8 y+ O/ T( E$ j
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will) M4 M& p% G$ h
fit.2 {- U! b9 V' @6 ]8 B9 f+ S6 b
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
" u; h$ i5 W+ x4 r1 l9 Dthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
5 a# ~5 j' E- M9 ?4 _( ^9 r; ftheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
+ V* h6 L1 a, F9 Y9 ?2 s9 QIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
8 q# S3 R" I. m7 ~0 ?2 hany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
% h1 q/ a; l# H$ x1 e9 }9 zIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
9 f2 H5 {1 ]3 p5 R( C& ?inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
5 k! P) w. M# p! Ppartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time. L3 g5 `8 ~! g3 C. \9 p( p: @+ x
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
6 P8 a. K# L' j* l6 D1 Q* z/ gbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more) h$ \& t& j- O% w
traffic, faster.5 `& J a8 \- y5 V: R7 D& |
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
& R; e+ c, r( l7 W' @+ h& JAnother good discussion of the difference seen by someone using shared vs vps hosting for PPV is# A9 \" W; r2 k7 C1 }. d- W# J
