7 y. ~4 ^& S6 H" Y4 E8 \0 l1 f: d- y6 PGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said. _, h `- a3 Z) a- c; l: ?# b
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
+ L5 J' r5 ^% }% ~, V4 fhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
9 R S" f4 i/ B+ L+ Ewhoever else is on the same server as you.
! F0 Q, a( I0 S* g! v8 F% Z4 CSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
( T! o q2 f5 g) Wenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
7 s( P' l; y+ S6 Nseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
2 l$ C% m# _2 X/ z; [# C6 p% F$ XTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a3 F* @6 C0 W5 A6 f9 g# X% t0 g/ w3 U+ g
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
W+ w* }* X# P6 O' pIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside' n: Y: @ U8 {+ q" J% O5 h- L8 Z
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
9 T) a+ e" y# N3 Vfit.
6 U, X8 G& Q: G% I) H; o$ M, zSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
' Y' N% U: N( d8 |! ~; a6 Rthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate4 U% a# u J8 I4 l# f. u, [+ j! A
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.7 {& [1 i: _7 D i8 R" A
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
# M1 r2 d* s) c- Uany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
; }4 S; _( Y/ t8 X7 NIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
& ^0 Y2 |, {/ b4 _- u z( Dinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
7 d9 p: r1 X/ ~partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.' |9 D9 H: F5 v* q* ]
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources# Q9 u; g: {* t. @
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
+ e w9 n* \# @traffic, faster.
# n, l, O& ^3 x' D% y: UAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server./ y4 S9 q. S# E
