Set Up Web Hosting
2 L. J2 t% b/ u9 oGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said- D0 b6 |& @( J
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
! J" N4 n6 p! r* o- U+ Z; Qhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with- y5 @3 u) U7 J* f
whoever else is on the same server as you.- `% i) _( `" K q7 s1 _
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast6 S% o2 k: r4 M6 ]
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 35 u2 S! p7 Z h/ G% ?
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
' c9 k, C- a2 j2 bTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a1 d! a* I- r9 K, V2 e
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
1 p9 ]" |% A0 l, e# i- a3 [, FIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
7 m7 G6 l, O" G+ athe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
) u) X+ I2 ]2 v2 l$ w' G3 ]fit.* P- H; V% v: S
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than# r/ T0 s& O9 O- k
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate% C: q' I. ~, S3 O% u
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
5 P; u4 E, j8 J: T7 aIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
' S: f, R/ ^/ b! }: S! E6 fany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
7 G) u+ ~# t+ S: Q) P' OIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
5 p8 `: g# A1 n( m" F& P6 S$ Iinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is( R: [) |( ?* I, r
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
2 ]: d s: _) ^9 E% O+ ?A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources& w/ ? V v% V8 o
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
8 Y; |" Y; j4 w6 o4 ltraffic, faster.
3 x0 }# Z! w! _0 RAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.# q. V, X: |3 t9 v0 A9 A5 f
