Set Up Web Hosting
" }" @2 S( d; W3 vGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
0 b' ?3 {* Q, l) S0 j; R/ k, X& i) @about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared3 E9 _# u4 N5 r. }: G ^3 V
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with; n+ x! A8 N2 C. \$ G) M9 K+ F7 n2 {
whoever else is on the same server as you.& l8 V6 O$ C3 U- `
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast+ M c' r: L6 n* t9 c
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
0 U3 t& l; k( }2 T# {* H& }! ~seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck./ W( I. }9 D, c6 Y' X6 S( r9 ]
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
" |) e1 y$ }7 shouse full of roommates (hosting customers).
+ e9 U+ P. `1 j, ^/ l. o& L2 e( b ZIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
7 c0 Y6 ?7 D2 G+ E" [( h/ Dthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will7 E2 t# Q7 W: ~; m
fit.* n2 o! u. H5 t( j" b& o
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
. ]3 A; _0 A0 r/ @; a$ D5 D1 athe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate' o# S) ~/ C8 S, q+ _( B" H
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of." M% i) R" V$ a' \& e/ h3 v, j
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
$ r0 }, `, H. e) p1 Pany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic./ z9 F/ c# |8 }. A
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
) g3 J8 ]2 u; T* c+ \% ?inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
) A" D. u4 `8 E9 Ppartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
5 E) d' i% W" \' C# R& xA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources, d$ ^3 J, A( E4 V) P v1 k
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more/ T, h# h' R5 H( M, r5 J K
traffic, faster.7 o4 v) {$ u9 c0 m5 r
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.- J0 ^7 M& G; l1 K2 E
