3 f& o, L4 Y' `5 V: BSet Up Web Hosting* q; Q8 _4 a M# b
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
; q B) z$ d+ f: y: A& mabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared1 X/ {: }5 U1 A" U! Z5 r2 Z; h
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with9 J* ?( f( X- J: z) S5 D( e
whoever else is on the same server as you.6 m9 M: {( h: q+ i" R( }
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
# ^$ j4 P0 L/ j" L; @) Menough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
5 |: r6 Q% ~ H9 cseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.7 d4 `; }6 a' ]- R0 Z
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
8 {! y. T8 ]# G( _) j# Shouse full of roommates (hosting customers).6 o/ D; v0 |6 H& B% u* c
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside0 Y2 q. l+ ~' ^$ ]
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will; s$ q7 Y- q6 @
fit.3 R. i1 a1 v+ _/ Q+ V5 {$ f5 P
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
) N& X; M S u& v; zthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate9 N. H4 X6 L/ g- }
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.* J. `1 {! s- E O
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
" ]9 K7 g+ Y6 ]- H( ^ u& U1 vany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
/ \# u& ], E( v, q/ j0 B- EIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
3 a8 I( a- [1 ]1 r! P7 winside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
* J# k0 U) h9 @3 |- ]. R' h( ` V; P9 Z4 opartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
% D4 \4 ~ o3 |# b0 t+ zA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources" ^9 K2 S1 r$ K) {; G, J- P" [
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
$ B( T+ E2 c8 A1 ^traffic, faster.2 G6 _, {- n4 g7 }; g
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
