Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said/ w7 [! j4 d/ C6 x0 L
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
, Q- w+ _+ U) d7 x8 z/ R6 k; Shost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
% G! Z8 S: R6 U1 j( I0 m. Swhoever else is on the same server as you.. F' A' W$ P2 X0 g
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
$ y" r+ |/ B; L; tenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 36 i: o) R5 \5 d/ }$ e& _" H2 E
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.2 W2 W3 Q1 ]. p. o% o$ @& n; n1 r p
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a2 Q- r3 v8 r5 h4 X0 q; Y. q
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
0 f y: D: l4 K! x! c& nIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside7 a+ p( S- Z. n4 v
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
. J" w5 n( T; pfit.
. s1 X' ^' N2 ]* E7 M( gSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than/ a- v7 M4 z/ E: Y1 Y
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
: r( M" _: t |6 l1 S1 Mtheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.. R7 |, O; b: {+ D
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
, l/ S7 |/ o3 W! x& ~- K. z% lany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.0 D( d- e7 U) g- @# Z8 _
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space) \0 g- G. v" G: t
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
6 b, V$ S5 U+ ~: Z% a3 qpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.( N5 M6 U" d1 {1 r* {
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources( d1 p$ ]7 A* ?' l3 C
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more3 B1 s: D) ~7 E" j3 B( n$ J7 X
traffic, faster.
. M8 s8 H4 \5 F, D0 b6 dAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
