with any success, these claims are laughable and far from the truth.2 G1 K% ]8 _" x9 Y
Affiliate marketing is simply a business, like any other. There are customers, sales, suppliers and cash

the ability for a marketer to be a one person shop and make an incredible amount of money with low

With that in mind, this guide will explore just one internet traffic source, PPV, and is set up to get you

1.Web Hosting- preferably a VPS (virtual private server) or higher (e.g. Beyond Hosting, Hostgator)

3.Account at a CPV/PPV traffic network (e.g. LeadImpact, Trafficvance, MediaTraffic)+ l8 F: `: S [- u4 D6 S
4.Tracking Setup to Track down to the keyword/url level (e.g. Prosper202 or CPVLab)

Affiliate Marketing- is an internet-based marketing practice in which a business pays one or more
3 ?) \% W. U2 F% A+ o' iaffiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts. The two main

Cost per sale (CPS) network- Every time an affiliate sends a visitor who buys a product, the affiliate# Z+ N. I" Z/ M% R
receives a commission on that product. An example would be the Amazon.com Associates program,
& o0 ^' j* L3 f" |/ w5 j( o' \Comission Junction or Clickbank.1 D% _- q! ^$ {7 y& @1 Z+ d8 e9 v
Cost per action (CPA) network- The affiliate earns a commission by sending a visitor who completes
: A' \" o2 [" h4 Tan action like filling out a form, submitting their email address, signing up for a service or sometimes/ Q* Q b; W5 W. _
buying a product. An example would be Ads4Dough or Neverblue.
+ {# I: j1 p/ f; FAffiliate Manager- an affiliate's contact at a CPA affiliate network who is responsible for the affiliate's; c8 o0 L+ Q- _* ^1 S, r
account, getting the affiliate approved for offers, bumping payouts and just about everything else0 R6 W- i& k: X% T. l

PPV- means pay-per-view, and is also called CPV (cost-per-view). This type of internet traffic is served
, P: l; I; \, Din pop-up form through downloadable software on the visitor's computer. The advertiser pays per
' g( B# b, K# D, iview, starting anywhere from .01 or .015.) K" k$ z, b; F8 Z- w
In order to use this type of internet traffic, the affiliate can sign up with a number of different+ T, R% v6 [. g" q
companies who serve popups. The main PPV/CPV networks are Trafficvance, LeadImpact,- |4 O' r- v ] N" n6 O9 \7 @ X- G
MediaTraffic, and AdOn Network.
! S$ e. l/ v& iDon't popups get blocked by pop blocker software?) j2 }% \9 }, w
No. Popups are served in a new browser window as if the visitor had opened the new window1 V$ r# w2 X. t! R1 v
themselves.
5 ^6 F, W' x3 W# S6 x- MHow many popups get served to the visitor?! J# ?# @' a8 I# {% x# \
The number of popups served varies depending on the PPV network. Some pop more frequently
8 R/ x* M& |! ~; h$ s(LeadImpact), others less frequently (Trafficvance). PPV advertising companies make their money by

Isn't this type of software bad? Why would anyone keep it on their computer?
e( ~' A: ]0 \. L# B, U( V! e. oNo, this type of software doesn't harm the user's computer.1 q. b) l8 f2 z/ ]/ n
Companies that specialize in this type of traffic offer their visitor an incentive like screensavers, games,+ A7 Y% U0 f0 B+ i
toolbars or videos to place the software on their computer. The visitor keeps the software in place so
& _6 p" J( f2 X$ _8 m4 `2 G& kthat they can continue to have access to the incentive.

How to Get Accepted into a CPA Network
& M b0 O0 ]# b& jIn order to start marketing offers, it will be necessary to join one or more CPA networks. A good place- |7 c# Y1 L9 n+ K5 r
to start looking for networks is Offervault which lists offers and lets you compare payouts across: c2 q- E, _% F# G
different networks.
# B+ A( I" n" Q9 jOnce you find a network that you want to join, fill out the affiliate (sometimes called publisher)
+ L& M5 K; }/ t' t; Japplication and be as specific as possible about your promotion methods. Usually some time after
; N% [" Q( o. jreceiving your application, the company will call to interview you. The phone interview is a critical
/ ]" m0 Z U) F S6 N) d) s. Spart of the application process, and most networks will deny your application outright if they can't get& Y( V5 c4 H" e6 M! N" }
you on the phone.1 ^, H7 i+ v. `
Often, the person who does your phone interview will actually become your affiliate manager after2 S* E; I# E# K8 Q% \8 H6 g/ K6 D

You might not relish at the idea of someone grilling you about your internet marketing methods over
2 V) `1 B6 G% [* I( T: d0 Athe phone, but trust me, this part is critical. Have answers in mind for the questions:
2 i& D; a' m1 O# DWhat methods do you use to market offers?
) h; I" |2 _: W5 `- lDo you already have a website you will be using?
0 n5 r2 c" A9 C+ K# z; S. ?How much is your advertising budget?4 X& n! V1 ?$ h
What other networks are you a member of?; y& W c5 t0 m$ \
Who are your affiliate managers at these networks?3 m, ]9 O! r" y0 a
Do you use social media (Facebook, twitter, etc.) to market offers?' C+ r* \3 X k" K: c
How much traffic can you drive?" K% z8 y* {; w, _" T9 K: J/ j
Do you have a personal recommendation from anyone who is already a member?
6 M4 C+ p( l ~- g5 o. L4 j+ _Once you provide satisfactory answers to these questions, the network will approve or deny your
8 H9 |# `1 e( B; D- X8 eapplication. If you get denied, just keep applying or call someone on the phone and try again. Be! h- p# E; F" L4 n
persistent. Also, getting a personal recommendation from someone who is already an active affiliate1 K9 e( n0 L& ]/ D
for the network can be helpful.

Summit, or AdTech and make sure that you talk to people. Also, lots of affiliate managers and network

Once you're a member of a CPA Network, it's a really good idea to reach out to your affiliate manager2 p3 O d, A* n
and make an attempt to get to know them a little bit.
1 p# P2 y3 E9 j2 o3 U* g9 _Frankly, there are great affiliate managers and horrible ones, and a good one can be worth their1 C& H4 Y! A& Z! P: y: w. B
weight in gold. Start feeling them out from the start and try to get to know them. Once you get. ~" \: ?9 |9 M/ X

Set Up Web Hosting: P* V {, d4 z3 V2 z$ [* y+ M9 V1 Y
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said4 B5 b: y8 \' A+ j; K% o9 u
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
8 k1 w+ B) h( X f! z- W: Y- M" chost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
6 n$ m6 i2 C; [. y7 _whoever else is on the same server as you.
8 L# k7 a0 s. h0 R8 k: P! _' l9 J. QSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast7 H$ Y* Q6 J0 i1 _4 M) a5 Y$ [" n4 y; |
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
& U& |3 z% J' r+ k: R* Y+ E8 E4 zseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck." A; O c( v, J5 h6 U# ?. @
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
* ~0 [ F2 a% b V- x; ~house full of roommates (hosting customers).
% u0 d% t" x6 j/ ]" R9 xIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside q& n0 q% q& b5 j1 N
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will5 c# ~1 Q' X: F" Y& G: Q; l
fit.
- |% A; p; Q( |$ Y* p% c) WSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
4 r9 ]$ R0 ~% x8 w" F4 |, vthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
& `) l3 H" D/ Htheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
2 M5 a3 C1 h, T2 @1 @" k3 xIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For: L- d( R& S' [
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.# S6 ]" [ V, X9 K& V9 D6 w- U& x
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space8 n2 ?( V2 K' m! X
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
6 P' V( M- p1 V0 m% }partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.' z& r8 B/ `: W6 j* f6 l
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
/ M7 d9 G/ I) e8 Q ~. Zbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
( K7 N/ S. k% ptraffic, faster.+ L2 u: T1 H" F4 g( [, R7 |& a
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.

Oftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,
" F: D0 ^$ h P; R- tbland one is fine to start with, to host both your landing pages and tracking software. The .com,# t) @# U: X% [
.net, .org extension doesn't really matter, this isn't a domain we're going to try to use to SEO rank for a
$ ~7 H: v8 N- |8 @) P! Vterm or build a whole website.
0 i- [- ^! t8 @* }- wAfter you buy hosting, a domain and get those all attached to each other, the next step is to install; p5 ^$ H3 U! F$ u: B
tracking software on your domain. This is really important, because it is necessary to track your
! g2 Q" S% h1 e; `conversions down to keyword level so that you can optimize your campaigns. Without proper1 f8 C6 P" d, r ?8 `6 [5 B
tracking, it is impossible to know what is working and what isn't.

campaigns using the Tracking202 internet-based interface which is similar to the Prosper202 user3 ?7 r& p. C6 J3 y& l* q X: _

that all traffic is accepted.
* @* l; y: b& J0 j- k2 q* \First, I log into Ads4Dough and click on Campaigns, then Email/Zip submits.) }9 [+ C3 R( b2 \2 u) W
This is where I get my link for the offer, place my tracking pixel from Prosper202 or CPVLab, and can. m( h" L- a. _6 O0 ~+ C: K
get creatives like banners or images specifically for the offer.

Before I do anything else, I'm going to place my tracking pixel from my tracking software so that I can
