$ b* k8 k) T0 @7 BAffiliate marketing is simply a business, like any other. There are customers, sales, suppliers and cash3 b7 ^4 g1 f# q) T7 E, K5 {
flow management. The main benefits are the low barrier to entry compared to other businesses, and$ W2 D2 M( s) n6 o3 V
the ability for a marketer to be a one person shop and make an incredible amount of money with low

affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts. The two main

Cost per sale (CPS) network- Every time an affiliate sends a visitor who buys a product, the affiliate
/ V& T" Y# c! l' Kreceives a commission on that product. An example would be the Amazon.com Associates program,
; b3 i' @, ` ], {0 @ KComission Junction or Clickbank.3 d& o6 P e* f2 f; s& l# D9 j
Cost per action (CPA) network- The affiliate earns a commission by sending a visitor who completes8 R3 Q5 w; s& D: m9 M; U
an action like filling out a form, submitting their email address, signing up for a service or sometimes; L# ^7 e+ v$ ~# t: X: q1 z
buying a product. An example would be Ads4Dough or Neverblue.
# n( H6 m0 z+ w {Affiliate Manager- an affiliate's contact at a CPA affiliate network who is responsible for the affiliate's
" X$ N& P& I5 x% m4 u* }account, getting the affiliate approved for offers, bumping payouts and just about everything else
3 L+ I/ T5 R2 |3 x6 ^( g- Irelated to an affiliate's account at the network. Having a good relationship with your affiliate manager* |1 H" T# u) t) V* _) H7 A
right from the start can really help you.
, d) o5 H5 ~# Z; Y' [ a/ O2 {6 ^8 h) DPPV- means pay-per-view, and is also called CPV (cost-per-view). This type of internet traffic is served

The number of popups served varies depending on the PPV network. Some pop more frequently

Isn't this type of software bad? Why would anyone keep it on their computer?
& ?" j) F& X- N5 K8 WNo, this type of software doesn't harm the user's computer.
7 t. m" V6 `( E8 MCompanies that specialize in this type of traffic offer their visitor an incentive like screensavers, games,
9 ^# _" q! w4 x3 J% ctoolbars or videos to place the software on their computer. The visitor keeps the software in place so0 a' W7 G) M* Q3 r

How to Get Accepted into a CPA Network$ ^$ ~, d$ q. I
In order to start marketing offers, it will be necessary to join one or more CPA networks. A good place
# r* _; W! U+ @8 H' ~- z }1 tto start looking for networks is Offervault which lists offers and lets you compare payouts across
% |! n1 Y/ f6 y& e; Z1 \different networks.
2 L* ]6 K) H. Z; o% F( gOnce you find a network that you want to join, fill out the affiliate (sometimes called publisher)
5 }0 n8 d) p/ k4 i \application and be as specific as possible about your promotion methods. Usually some time after
% a4 Z0 a+ P9 p# _. b7 s: breceiving your application, the company will call to interview you. The phone interview is a critical" m! ]* M2 G7 k
part of the application process, and most networks will deny your application outright if they can't get
0 s' B# f0 u1 E# M( G' T; Q( byou on the phone.9 h8 _% V+ y& u$ V4 E
Often, the person who does your phone interview will actually become your affiliate manager after

Once you're a member of a CPA Network, it's a really good idea to reach out to your affiliate manager

8 @7 q' o1 ]3 }3 K* oFrankly, there are great affiliate managers and horrible ones, and a good one can be worth their
, K8 m' q, K/ m6 r: }6 Nweight in gold. Start feeling them out from the start and try to get to know them. Once you get, K% O( H( z) x' k @' y

Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
/ ^2 l5 ^1 N% n1 B$ {; m0 Tabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
) d0 S5 |; E7 X0 U% khost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with1 Y- k, }2 b' z y" F
whoever else is on the same server as you.
2 W/ j+ M9 {# x" KSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
5 L) H! ]& d7 n* |4 wenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 39 r P3 d( e' A6 `
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
0 |" i7 Z* c+ zTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a* x- U- ?" m1 [! ?' g
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
' H' V% H6 N( x+ b% B& LIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside7 J8 h$ ]4 \( O0 a* Q M1 R/ o
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will

Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than n' N3 e* T) h5 p- `$ a& l8 ^
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate

If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
* `! W* r/ n9 l* c" r5 D( B2 s( Uany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.% Y x% N/ H3 w7 e2 T
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space/ x# `) V4 Y% S7 r& d% g' W
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
, N+ v6 S+ a O2 y' x: Z0 {partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.: r- s' {/ E* f( _' \1 e2 ]. b) G
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
7 ]* q4 X L$ _. u* Jbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more

/ S, e% q# B: W( ?- c Z7 K9 m( t8 dAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.

.net, .org extension doesn't really matter, this isn't a domain we're going to try to use to SEO rank for a

After you buy hosting, a domain and get those all attached to each other, the next step is to install* x. v+ ?: w3 E2 g3 \. i
tracking software on your domain. This is really important, because it is necessary to track your
& `4 b( `8 r0 l. F) `; jconversions down to keyword level so that you can optimize your campaigns. Without proper% H! l- A x6 |+ B$ [3 [
tracking, it is impossible to know what is working and what isn't.

First, I log into Ads4Dough and click on Campaigns, then Email/Zip submits.0 d3 M0 w2 T) `7 N# ]
This is where I get my link for the offer, place my tracking pixel from Prosper202 or CPVLab, and can& D4 @$ A: v' k! E5 e0 Z
get creatives like banners or images specifically for the offer.8 B9 g( Q# [2 M4 f

Before I do anything else, I'm going to place my tracking pixel from my tracking software so that I can6 g/ s$ I! t" v
track my keywords. Without doing this, it isn't possible to see what's converting.
4 g0 R0 E4 J7 V& p4 nIn Prosper 202, your pixel is located under Setup → Get Postback/Pixel and the screen looks like this:
