Set Up Web Hosting
3 m: _9 w# v% V& Z* Q9 E( [0 aGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
1 Z- q/ [8 x7 Q4 y; Y8 mabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
% ^- S2 _; @% R: U$ Vhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
! o8 T# a! h5 ?% ~; N3 nwhoever else is on the same server as you.
, A4 m A; {/ k7 [% ESpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
( x# e/ ^- `% Henough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
: _! }2 C M l2 W) h/ xseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
1 X$ \0 C1 F% \) L5 iTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
9 R) L4 {( {2 j. B& U( X) `. Hhouse full of roommates (hosting customers).' O3 {4 }! Y9 L# H% M, c
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
9 \; I; _" g, E; athe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
* J/ w, z% Y9 h4 ~) }7 z* Tfit.7 Z4 y, b5 `. A
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
- d! v; f) ^ M( S8 a8 }1 Hthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
; X! b6 Y, j! R; E$ qtheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.5 z7 Y5 P6 `" L1 H
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
& _1 u0 B ~4 _, `" Aany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
+ T( N' `! s' \' ]In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
A& I8 D7 c/ s$ i/ M+ jinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is8 s$ V% h& H* |; D9 U! V
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.& Z1 B, ~9 b, g# m
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
3 r' R4 |" c6 X# ^* X, Q" |$ e; vbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more. @* y! g8 ]3 ?3 u, H3 Q
traffic, faster.* y) _9 N! v+ D0 C, r/ e
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.; G C6 E+ t6 A; l2 i
