Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
3 s: j' A* K# U/ Q6 v, tabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
% c. z) Z' G6 Z8 Q/ y( \1 W# Rhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
$ k, k) V& @0 X/ Y9 N! x& Wwhoever else is on the same server as you.
! f3 b! I* | N/ O" H" xSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast5 J" u! \; R: y H+ o
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
" b2 W9 a- x# s$ A1 r6 dseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.3 ~ e2 a P w+ S8 s8 L
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a$ z& k* ^+ n0 I+ f& Z7 T& Q% G
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
& `5 F, X4 W1 O2 q) JIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside5 P- [' M9 W% m* Z; h" x A0 [6 U
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
+ m6 ~% |8 o& \- b# Q5 [fit.
9 k( `1 S' e4 C. S/ V$ S; F2 dSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
9 t8 t! m1 j4 l+ O4 v/ }' v4 `the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate/ \9 k/ L7 {$ j+ U6 ~
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
) l/ t+ Z4 [6 e/ J6 N; UIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
, _ ~1 {) G1 W2 d& iany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
: d* u" y1 E8 gIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space4 [7 a0 _& V s) g6 S& |2 O7 }6 Z! x3 _
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
" T/ y& R+ S3 A- F/ Zpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.4 s4 Y) Y% t. _
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources6 }3 n. b: G( J) |0 n3 o$ F) d
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more8 r0 N3 G6 X( Q9 K& `
traffic, faster./ b( E( Z. u% ~: ], _' D, U
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.! v% _6 e! P! Q. V
