Set Up Web Hosting9 @0 `) }3 @9 U1 {
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said9 f, \" O( d; e- U( y3 [) d G
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared( w, F1 p0 w3 j& k$ O* d
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
8 W, }( m! g& V7 owhoever else is on the same server as you.) E( _& O) N. {6 j, W+ g! q9 F% L
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast; l1 M* @5 y3 a7 e* _9 N
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3! f w6 u+ b; u- s
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.+ u2 X8 q7 }$ o) u/ d3 Z* J# K
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
. L Z5 _4 F( T- ~( ?: G% R, d2 ^+ Shouse full of roommates (hosting customers).
% f7 h& y# I# S& Q' B. H9 k# RIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside+ D& v0 M- b( Y, z
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will' `7 t r* k# L B7 ]& o3 Z. h7 F' x
fit.
( u* d3 l8 [2 J- @; S( K9 S8 y* s+ BSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than7 M7 E1 [6 e) @9 b
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
) T& Q* y0 w O8 n( p& K% jtheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
G$ U2 K! a6 ?/ g+ UIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
* z7 W& o, e3 v# ]& X" jany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.( i+ m @' }: L
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
$ x' I3 b6 K$ s0 i+ ~inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is+ J0 {+ T4 i- \4 u `
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
; g. w: I- G7 ~4 QA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources" d, e9 z+ p" h& s9 h/ `4 s
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
& I/ Q7 f% U; k2 t, p2 _traffic, faster.
% O& O& p0 S$ xAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.3 B: t# l2 b9 {0 q/ v7 l+ e

Domain Names for PPV
3 `+ _' @+ ?2 a4 s, COnce you buy your hosting it's time to also buy a domain name and get it on your hosting. This is
7 Z) a# ^, _: {7 @. d5 J6 ^) Owhere you're going to host your tracking software and your landing pages if you decide to make them.' ]" S$ m4 `! l1 f. u( A0 q/ C
Oftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,
