Set Up Web Hosting
- b' t) _' h$ n Q9 Q& ^Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
! ^9 s+ Y f ?5 Y# b8 i- iabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared$ \7 e" D1 y3 r* ^$ Y0 {5 ]- w
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with/ K. A$ b! M: A: P
whoever else is on the same server as you.$ C. j4 E9 j5 A$ {
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast( q6 E# K2 W" X! t+ }6 X0 V- @
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 36 \4 r$ j; q' s5 b- [3 k3 ?; @
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
/ _: ?, G z- I, OTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a- i- _% @7 y& R: g) @
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
; f0 |; M1 P% aIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
; d/ y0 m7 w4 W0 Z f) `4 o" {3 jthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will1 `* s& P4 U# @3 A
fit.
/ u1 @3 _2 _* O4 U1 MSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
4 {; G e, j0 u! i- Sthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
: F* H8 P. N* b/ Dtheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.7 ]1 o7 ~( _. `, C
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
+ j9 X6 O/ V: `any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.. u( l# R8 K, O# h
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
( }3 s2 u+ p' P6 G. M- Vinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
3 T$ a. e) l8 Npartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.5 T9 j/ f. c" |1 S6 n
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources# h% w( E: ^1 E+ x$ K
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
3 V. G, ~! {& Jtraffic, faster.' d; Q" [( J1 P, O' ?% J( ~9 V
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.

Once you buy your hosting it's time to also buy a domain name and get it on your hosting. This is

Oftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,
