Set Up Web Hosting
+ E" K! A5 k+ a) P+ JGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
( g6 ^8 B" g" B- I7 B; ^) dabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared; i" n/ `8 A' R" [ u
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with% n8 b3 E, ~2 b( a% n: C2 H
whoever else is on the same server as you.
9 o3 v+ P6 ~: ySpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
+ L5 ], n4 U: U, U5 Y a" genough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
. k+ z& A9 R; U+ u3 ~; v2 _, `seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.4 z( I+ c1 P' a3 F6 N3 X
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a0 v2 g$ @5 B. D% Z" k3 d
house full of roommates (hosting customers).7 g6 U/ m+ N0 }( w4 z- ~
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside( `( I1 V1 g& B; K
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will, f. Z. i/ J% s u/ N3 h9 i
fit.
8 p+ \6 G9 a6 T0 a2 `0 OSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than# s6 s$ H1 X. A8 t
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate4 E2 G$ `& Q- ~1 g- s! a
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.2 f* I; C. J9 o# T& W! g
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
( p5 Q5 ]1 w) n- I$ Rany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic./ R! G9 e- @8 f/ ~ u1 [( V
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space& Z% f6 f7 c+ k/ P2 l' b
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
# Y; t3 J; o8 [# y$ X' y- U8 [7 U% Qpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
4 k$ @7 B9 \- a3 _A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources3 v4 G x' N6 f6 W9 e& t8 Y" ]/ l
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
& f6 b% r# P1 a) [8 ]1 rtraffic, faster.) Y0 I' j, T0 n0 g7 d
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.! b! m# ~& F& K _. {8 K8 X
