Set Up Web Hosting
: Q* X" i% D1 B/ ?& o% H7 |. nGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
8 g( N5 U( U/ `& ^$ R* Iabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
- p1 t; [0 T9 Hhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with1 X! @$ e5 V# k5 [! O
whoever else is on the same server as you.
6 ~# R I* i0 D9 YSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast' E8 R0 v( b' N: j2 J$ T
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
9 c5 x0 @& ]6 V& @, B7 ^. mseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.& d( P d+ _9 z2 |2 q; }
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a: Z; g9 k# A8 O
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
& t. N( I5 V+ v4 bIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
$ O% @. d; U* P7 d* wthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
$ m% ]; i7 [* [! P7 Xfit.4 g: u& s# L+ l; }
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than+ Z5 O9 C. u, r' R. u% j5 a
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
: o- G* U+ ^3 m0 Stheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.$ V9 [: M) j: W2 G$ k& O
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For' |3 c+ D3 o- D5 q0 H t: g
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
, b# l) j, H3 l QIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
& ?7 c6 `7 D6 j3 Z( b8 Xinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is# _$ t1 Q. }6 P9 o' F
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
1 p6 a! i* c- A p4 q# i& {0 _A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources q4 x5 g4 {" e- q
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
' y3 u5 Z6 T5 Wtraffic, faster.% v8 {) H$ X( |4 f) _: O/ W5 B
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.7 b P1 C' ]# S* X$ I1 d4 d
