3 P7 D( [4 ^( I; |Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said! n5 v7 ~4 B" b7 g* q% G3 `
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
2 V3 G: M% d7 j0 t1 a' ghost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
?/ ?# H) M8 z2 r* Rwhoever else is on the same server as you./ Z$ O, U9 W! Q9 V. k
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast6 x; w3 b& ?# [6 {
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
- L; B8 `7 m/ c" ^! F2 C9 M/ J$ vseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
; @2 b* m9 c/ [- I) v( y/ {To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
+ G: _6 H, {8 y2 o1 thouse full of roommates (hosting customers).
- k+ P: a) L p j# ~4 |( tIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside' h1 W0 `" U2 S' \' P- H
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will6 l5 m# L5 F2 l3 e, F. f+ [) W
fit.; ?& U% t4 f& h" j" R/ {
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than \+ l6 x( ^1 h# m$ z k
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
6 h; q" z0 s- s$ m; htheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.3 b9 g+ d* w& Y* t
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
. E( ?' J' D/ K8 S; k& ~any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
5 H* r" G X- f! z/ mIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space2 V7 @8 _$ g# B+ {' i/ D- D
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
% p: Y' Y. g- U7 dpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
8 S8 f2 p+ ^* h, R; l$ j3 A- f, Y" wA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
9 |0 r: t6 t- W6 t( Y; _belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more# r( f9 K. V G' x: t. T5 z# G8 J! q
traffic, faster.7 j" `2 B9 J+ u9 x
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.5 K$ e$ L" j! {0 k5 B
