Set Up Web Hosting6 i% U- Y3 s( W% W" J9 j. R
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
0 d+ v4 L1 M& x1 Aabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
' r+ y; y$ d# xhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
0 w5 x" y- h$ D; j& H. Zwhoever else is on the same server as you.$ I1 u3 l4 s. f% A: y H
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
+ s; o! `! p, f9 H2 X1 Henough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3$ C( O0 e/ b8 S8 U7 \+ w/ E
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
3 t) |# @; C9 Y1 S8 JTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
; o H+ P9 G, e* u; _house full of roommates (hosting customers).
$ c8 a$ B- J/ rIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
9 `( p4 B4 n$ L7 }: E6 Othe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will9 C {+ g1 x6 [6 r7 g0 L
fit.
; }" l6 |7 p$ ^Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than8 }) v5 Y2 N( ?1 |6 r" a9 b/ J9 R
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
& m% |2 \ m/ m0 Z2 \/ e7 [& dtheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.5 U& D% i( ~" P
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For0 m$ r0 c& _: j+ O7 M8 q' X
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
/ t8 F) Z9 p7 @9 |In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space3 K% E8 w' Q5 E$ `% q
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is5 t1 |6 O. R' |& u' b
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.+ p3 k/ k6 Q, f$ t3 n' g# \1 G. x
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
3 |6 d0 \, z% [1 J5 Sbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
" P( w. G8 B9 V, u# S3 T9 h8 }traffic, faster.
( [. x6 T, \( @! qAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.( i3 [% a: ]! [
