Set Up Web Hosting
- ~2 D& `5 ^# v# mGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
) V: j# W) Y3 {% R' R4 e; Eabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
* @! H! P) ^2 q; o1 r1 J& \, T$ ihost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with( c) n3 p# j. C$ M4 j- e, C
whoever else is on the same server as you.+ D4 G! L" G0 B! ^: O
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
( J3 h' ]# H# t6 n# s* C8 Venough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3. X, I2 F9 H; Y5 l: l' s
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
' x7 @* K, D% A `% e' BTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
! q" E5 f8 H+ V2 K3 Xhouse full of roommates (hosting customers).) A. U( G" X; G) F
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside5 l( g- J& m0 ]
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will* O% g3 R- `& V
fit.
( U$ M% d w* T# L! j1 _3 a7 L& aSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
$ ]+ Q6 b+ V. O1 fthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
5 H; }3 d; W7 V. [8 v) ztheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.$ j2 ^4 r5 S) r1 V
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For2 r) u6 q- h- z% b3 O
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic./ ]( H1 T) y# ~8 F$ I
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space. F* I, t! r# m2 A+ K+ @5 d
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
- k% R* V1 x" v- F. s" K& g4 rpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time. a# H1 l7 B- H7 H8 W
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
+ B/ }$ I5 ^' X& @; z0 \+ sbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more! y" K2 |+ G* I0 g0 R" l
traffic, faster.% T( f- b# [! Z8 T3 M
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server." E: Z- C6 b$ J/ ]

6 {' k4 R9 |( `& X' \, _Domain Names for PPV! A7 h6 ?& F. {/ z5 W
Once you buy your hosting it's time to also buy a domain name and get it on your hosting. This is% m1 K8 {: n0 r
where you're going to host your tracking software and your landing pages if you decide to make them.
7 I; f( y! E4 n I! LOftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,* P3 e( \$ b7 b5 ^; L1 }% V: X
