Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
7 L- k/ I# S8 @about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
9 \) w2 F& O; J1 ~0 Ahost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with6 v, O" }6 g! `, l* k
whoever else is on the same server as you.
$ R- U7 d/ N5 \4 |8 KSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast( u" t6 k% k: n0 x' ], w! o( J& }3 l
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
2 N: R. P8 h5 e* Q ~3 l7 Yseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
" s3 W | N' H1 `3 g j3 |: R2 cTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a! s/ `: w+ E; P( ^
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
. U+ I) ?# _8 ?* ^In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
/ E% v1 i; S) |+ p4 Z: ]4 {0 Lthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will, v9 L7 c/ h7 `; T. a6 Z F. _
fit.; n, r! j* h- c: k
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than1 y8 a; F! b. D& _ {
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
/ E% E7 ^4 \1 P' itheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
) I6 Q9 L. \) \- s( u; G; aIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For" A* m+ J" d0 {
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.% d7 x, w& ?" r. I
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
; y$ G7 m E/ a6 c I! v D9 {inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is! Q8 k1 Z) l& b$ ^" \
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time. X. O$ l' e# M& j! D& K& w
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources+ k) q" B3 c, K
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more. J" j- w* p( S, p- b/ y
traffic, faster.
