% M2 Q% o5 Q4 G( V2 |3 uSet Up Web Hosting! b/ C2 E8 B3 q7 B( S1 c
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said3 e7 r0 h" l/ l O _4 b
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
8 G( k3 e& T3 k7 g2 ^4 \$ l7 fhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
2 {8 q5 @( n2 O1 g5 O- owhoever else is on the same server as you.
9 o, n2 {' E+ \; g: D5 `Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
& C0 P; S2 l" ^ ^+ A" L1 Ienough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
/ u/ O- v i; m( g! oseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.( a1 b/ r: \1 y+ \0 S, ~. Z
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
1 v, C3 D) m3 N' K" mhouse full of roommates (hosting customers).' H$ m4 `# }$ k
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside# _/ W4 y( X$ L7 ]
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will& Q: F5 p. {" q3 s
fit.8 v7 y- Q& m' `3 J ]$ u
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
( a3 C2 t2 a8 G( C' j6 f wthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
1 Z6 {& V) L- C( e' ~their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.$ a6 v* E4 ?6 \+ x& a
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
' H# U! d" s7 N8 H3 o. z nany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
5 L* o% a5 z" p4 d& N0 TIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space$ h7 v0 x3 X6 E5 p5 n7 E% \5 q
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
- L: f8 n) f& u) W& Rpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
0 H1 ~# H1 Q; ?" oA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources; P2 t/ q8 y( h1 R" _. H" U
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
% n$ U) D8 ]7 l% `traffic, faster.4 S# h0 J; N' }; N5 j4 I
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.& x0 T7 m4 h" o; v; ] m
