Set Up Web Hosting
# E6 e2 K( y {Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
( q# O' D1 X! I6 i, A, C* Tabout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared0 [& D4 }% M. z+ `
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
6 b8 Y4 A/ G# h9 W, xwhoever else is on the same server as you.2 {9 C# ^$ D) \ h0 d' A
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast( G# B& ^/ H7 ?' e4 t3 d _1 x1 S( N; ^
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
: ^4 O# T- d. Iseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.3 k* w/ J/ v- |; x! e- |- \
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
' y7 t }9 v. ghouse full of roommates (hosting customers).2 f! }- S0 U) J! [
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
7 ?( w; ^" d- m- C2 Z, p2 F7 jthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will$ q. c4 ^% F7 f$ \4 ~
fit.
7 y- F5 t* ?8 T$ G/ ]5 ^Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than2 U3 i* B0 `: X, T
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
' l h/ {' M% G% Z: Ztheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of., Z$ r# o% y0 O5 Z# ~! f8 L5 q# q
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For) j6 g e% }6 U1 h
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.* s6 C# \. F1 l% j' Z4 H
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
; }+ `+ H, u8 F4 _inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
# J# x( @6 W( a7 f5 `7 bpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.4 l! M' d# `2 U% z
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources/ N, T; X/ \1 g0 r- P6 x7 _/ d
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
# E" t( F Y0 Qtraffic, faster.& U2 O* S, J6 M! h: [# z
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
