Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said$ i- [. Q. N" ?' s) j) P
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
; ~4 @, K F3 {. l/ U: vhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
5 i+ K- Y L3 q' E$ gwhoever else is on the same server as you.3 F' k9 \9 t* c9 f+ ?9 h) M
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast: E2 x( G! X' s# Y; q. }5 { S+ N
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
. r4 |( N# b) c) P7 e& useconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
9 p) O- j, V' @ CTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a, V" |0 d. R$ \% n& z$ I5 e
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
% X( g5 o K A: ~In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside2 H) @0 f& c+ E" f) G
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will: N0 j$ r& F5 V6 W6 s3 X+ d( `
fit.
^$ U2 ~' U# [& s; ?5 P/ w% RSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than, ~) D6 z* Q/ C- Z6 o0 E$ [2 ]9 v
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate* P2 ^" |( D' e7 C+ `1 Z
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of." Y1 v5 `& G7 ~! Z4 E" v9 x! M4 ?
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
( O! p& t. J& Q' A# x* u1 qany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
7 i- s6 b X$ e. \: ?In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
, e, p8 {& ~* ]- n! vinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
) ~1 q* ~9 Z; V% x2 Vpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.8 m. q6 \9 t6 U' a
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
6 M: K. s0 P7 @* Xbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more; a" c1 b K; b x O+ k3 h- _6 r
traffic, faster.
# U& H7 D- r, d3 d. T m4 wAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.9 E3 B5 q2 v; ?3 ?! C
