Set Up Web Hosting
( T: _2 G' A2 T" V4 k/ V5 w- a6 kGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said1 x8 Z7 r- ^) I5 i. n
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared1 m* n* Q! z5 |
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
1 y: }* e: P7 h! }7 r7 pwhoever else is on the same server as you.
7 w7 i. I2 }! D- V0 A6 v2 i; zSpeed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
; Z8 I% M! v9 v2 t6 kenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
+ P. }! G' H& e/ z9 G( D& p* _seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.% l7 y9 K9 y9 u( G2 `
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a' W! F1 [# g8 I
house full of roommates (hosting customers).$ K+ M# p |5 a0 q) }
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside) @0 T$ v6 W& I+ `
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
5 d; d K2 B6 v% J# U& J$ dfit.
4 \$ t, q1 |# p% u; q, b& n& r& [Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than5 _7 O/ N4 N7 a) Q2 w5 c9 x
the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
/ Z; ~# D! s/ z, R3 [4 ?% Vtheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.$ w+ Z, c8 d% _. Q1 l5 g9 c
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
' I! v% x2 B7 y y4 ?+ i6 ]any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.2 y% i! P8 O6 f" L- |. ]' p; m
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space
: z' [5 w9 @! j! Q! M2 c" jinside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is. N7 U) ~- `. J6 z ?. O0 H1 s [
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.+ ]& J3 z5 _# }6 F7 u* n
A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources5 g9 j" f1 R, U7 w% `# m) w8 S
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
h4 `( @9 t6 j' p. vtraffic, faster.& a6 [$ e4 o6 h
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.- @" l6 m& a- @5 g7 O# q

Once you buy your hosting it's time to also buy a domain name and get it on your hosting. This is" I. T* Y3 G3 _
where you're going to host your tracking software and your landing pages if you decide to make them.
3 {& V; J4 X1 L/ O2 V5 e% Z$ jOftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,0 ~, ?4 j, u3 z/ M+ @* n: D+ O
