+ f! t: k ]% w0 b1 j7 R3 ]Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said7 Y6 v/ T$ w9 B P+ S- x! r/ @
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared, e5 o3 ~+ d. S6 [& g9 D
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with* z) Q; J# [4 W" b+ h
whoever else is on the same server as you.' i/ I' A; I2 f, l+ }
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast6 N3 Q1 Q( d% F' y
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
+ |" t7 B& b- F4 l7 J% H7 x% wseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.3 @/ c; f: f" g! e2 k# v H: H
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a. S, `2 r4 |& |& f% M) P* c
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
, t! c, J) v# bIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
$ ~- l# p+ Z1 x- Q3 T- @the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
5 a; n. I6 m" N0 {' nfit.
+ p. h" l/ o% Z& ^# E5 \" tSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
x0 b8 @, q) I- pthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate ?* m$ f1 L# B
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.5 j8 d# |0 w$ y7 A4 ~& l# P( o" v
If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For: P! l# D! a' O5 A4 q$ }; \
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
0 J, s3 W. `; U8 }. DIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space4 N+ o" Q5 P g4 R" j$ P
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is \# b$ H* {5 \
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
- {" e8 J9 ^! Q8 K7 P; vA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
* x4 O8 ~" ~1 N. L; Zbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
# A. ]8 f( ?$ i/ g f4 w; b: ]traffic, faster.7 \) h3 x* V: Z; L# H3 u+ E' E
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.4 r- t8 y- a2 n2 H1 [5 G* l2 V

Oftentimes people wonder if they should have a specific domain name or a generic one. One generic,
