Set Up Web Hosting
2 x2 ?6 J3 r) X- t/ L, ~! YGetting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said3 G/ A8 T) y/ ~5 D
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared
( X2 t7 F: I( nhost for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with' n4 t: M8 I3 U% X
whoever else is on the same server as you.* F% z; F; \# S( g) }
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast9 x3 U/ s0 e2 L# F; i/ V/ L
enough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3$ t9 H' J5 p7 P$ N4 U6 S. x
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
' g5 { [) n( v- K7 oTo explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
9 \: l6 S+ |5 L& s$ w2 c5 bhouse full of roommates (hosting customers).
2 _4 O$ e2 m. S5 V4 EIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
+ [5 V# Z- l5 i2 Ythe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will0 ]" C. I0 m0 ~9 j! u* u e
fit.
* [/ F# y' a% _8 s8 d2 k) M) ASay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
/ B7 [ z6 {" |the rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
- G2 ^. h! e4 W4 p# @their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
& ~% s, j! A! k4 ?, c8 P) KIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For9 I; D/ C) i7 w
any type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
N/ F! U, y0 l% l0 h2 gIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space+ a2 m' o; b/ \! @; l9 \
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is
& [4 J! l4 [+ U' u% lpartitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
2 W3 v+ w9 Y& t6 YA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
: o0 w* q) w/ pbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more# x V' R" @* ^
traffic, faster.
% `! D; c; S- `" }9 GAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.
