Set Up Web Hosting6 k; ?& M1 f" _9 Z' g% R/ s! g
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said4 I6 Y7 |1 S& R, J& s! a g3 {1 l* f2 }
about internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared, i6 R$ \" p9 w S: d
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
) V: J) L7 }2 R& ?, n1 dwhoever else is on the same server as you.! I- D$ O7 d) e, @0 b' ^8 Y; m
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
9 g! G+ k/ c. ]% W& n$ z) J8 O! E( c+ jenough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 39 Q; s) n: o4 {( E1 |
seconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.
$ w( V* u0 J# ~1 |: h* p" b) |To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a6 G2 k z+ g3 T7 B
house full of roommates (hosting customers).
( t& l: P, l( c0 I4 qIn shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside% I+ R) o0 \ C- ]- e6 A2 p1 w
the fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will% d5 S* n9 p8 H4 E
fit." F* Y$ n( O. \: |7 w/ g
Say your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
, q7 A4 i$ G' vthe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate
+ z+ r' d; i* rtheir food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
- X5 M r! |7 ~6 r6 J L$ C4 @8 |5 _If you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
" e4 C( m" s6 b$ n, w, nany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.( D6 E* \) u( X: f1 A
In the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space8 @) d4 a" u$ v0 ?
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is. V ~/ X3 V7 r4 E
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
2 l8 k" a7 P* P3 Z# f# V7 f* }A dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources
, g/ Q! ^% S/ O' R: ]2 nbelong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more
/ N' z1 S5 b8 _5 f' Dtraffic, faster.
# G6 l" g! J2 ?- YAt the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server.' B0 n5 S( e3 X; H7 ]1 g
