Set Up Web Hosting3 D9 m6 o6 C* F+ I
Getting an internet hosting account is beyond the scope of this guide, but a few things need to be said
6 G' S4 s! J. a! o$ Habout internet hosting. In general, you get what you pay for with hosting. When you use a shared3 S5 M3 F! g' S" [6 ?' {0 c
host for PPV traffic, you are putting yourself at huge risk because your bandwidth is shared with
. G: A4 o& Q4 z0 `* ?2 bwhoever else is on the same server as you.! G2 q! j' h m& Y
Speed is the name of the game in PPV traffic. Your offers and landing pages need to pop up fast
$ j; l" c# P5 b3 p. ienough that the visitor can't close the window before your pop up is even shown. You have about 3
. B# L d8 G A6 L2 e7 Y6 ~' Tseconds before the user can get that window shut. If your offer doesn't show in that time, tough luck.% P* {3 g. P8 x
To explain the difference between types of hosting packages, picture a refrigerator (the server) in a
9 [6 E" k2 w; n( C" shouse full of roommates (hosting customers).& N: w9 Y2 J/ J4 Q& V& E* O
In shared hosting, this is like having roommates where everyone has no specific designated area inside
9 S, k: Z# M7 J: vthe fridge where they are supposed to put their food. Everyone just jams their food in however it will
1 }& T# T2 c. d- I) lfit.
! @8 i8 v3 Q' A% LSay your roommate brings home a large turkey. They will then take up more of the refrigerator than
3 @9 q# d; {1 t5 f; e, O1 h+ Othe rest of the roommates, by virtue of simply needing more space and resources to accommodate8 N+ n8 S+ c* \$ P2 J. j; V. p3 E
their food. Everyone else's food in the house has less space to take advantage of.
4 J# O+ H$ J( E4 Y2 DIf you have less server resources to take advantage of, your ability to serve popups will slow down. For
# X6 i, E a( m# Uany type of hosting this is a bad thing, and especially while running PPV traffic.
8 V* X$ W0 Y$ J- HIn the case of a virtual private server (VPS), everyone in the house has their own designated space2 c# [. r% b3 f' A0 @1 [3 @; A. r
inside the fridge to put their food, and other roommates can't come into that space. The server is9 U, P) y; v1 ?; I
partitioned, so that each customer can only use a specific amount of resources at any given time.
% w4 b2 Z' h) w3 v6 d. q- ^) @! HA dedicated server would be like having the whole fridge to yourself. All of the server's resources& {* U' a8 {% K" N0 X% m- V
belong to you and no one else can use up those resources. This makes it possible to serve much more9 x: w' s& E$ |4 X" s6 Q! f
traffic, faster.0 D6 A& I" k, y( P
At the very minimum, you need a VPS to run PPV traffic, and at higher volumes, a dedicated server." O; a5 I* ^8 o$ j
