<p>With DNS Failover, Amazon Route 53 can help detect an outage of your [! F- [& d7 ?
website and redirect your end users to alternate locations where your 2 O+ O9 {0 C9 f, X* W* Y9 @
application is operating properly. When you enable this feature, Route ' P; Y: p7 [2 x2 n+ K" t q3 i
53 uses health checks—regularly making Internet requests to your + F Z$ S4 q" B. q7 R
application’s endpoints from multiple locations around the world—to ! u! ^: d( |& N; j
determine whether each endpoint of your application is up or down. </p> % X8 o7 ~ L+ j% y3 v! P

<p>For ELB endpoints, Route 53 evaluates the health of the load balancer : ^! p) Q8 T" |. S+ X' k
itself and the health of your application running on the EC2 instances * c+ b! E( a% N3 s. E
behind it. If any part of the stack goes down, Route 53 detects the / [/ J) h! z; P$ V( _
failure, routes traffic away from the load balancer, and directs traffic : J; ?9 ]0 w# l# V% ]/ l
to other healthy ELB endpoints. Route 53 DNS Failover also supports EC2 ) @$ a0 t: ]& j; ]5 _6 j5 P
